Mobile website vs. Desktop Website
I came across this great article on Mobile vs. Desktop user habits and wanted to share it with you. There has been a massive move to mobile compatibility lately and this article goes over some of the reasons for that push. I’m sure it’s obvious to us all that with the explosion in Smartphone technology and it’s prevalence in our daily lives that having simple, fast, easy to navigate, mobile sites for us to use when we visit a business on our phones is the key to capturing our business.
Here’s a little more about these points for you to consider when creating your own Mobile site:
Simple: Mobile websites will never replace regular websites, but if your regular website was a novel then mobile websites are the Cliff Notes to that novel.
Fast: Mobile websites need to get to the point, be easy to load, and keep graphics to a bare minimum. People searching for you on their phone are looking to buy your services right now; they need to know what you do, your hours of operation, where you are (integrated map with click to directions), and contact information (One click to call).
Easy to navigate: Ever tried clicking on a tiny little button with your finger on your phone? That wasn’t a mobile website and I bet you moved on to another site very quickly. Mobile Responsive is the minimum that any website made today should be; that will make your desktop site adjust to the smaller screens but keep the same content just rearranged to make it fit. Mobile websites take that to the next level by breaking out the basic information and putting it all on the first screen with big wide buttons to make it as easy as possible to navigate.
This increase in mobile usage goes hand-n-hand with Social Media. Facebook, Twitter, Google +, and a host of others social sharing sites are out there and being used by your customers at an ever increasing rate to network and communicate with their friends and families. Businesses need to be participating in these networks to access and expand their customer base. In upcoming posts I will talk about how you can use a mobile website to capture data that will allow you to market your products and services in the future and turn that first time customer into a repeat customer.
